It's okay to help out our neighbours if they are in trouble. It is counter productive to help someone else when you are in trouble also.
The Australian government currently has foreign debt of $1 trillion. The spending habits of the current Liberal government and the previous Labor government has increased net debt to $12,000 per person. That is $12,000 for every man, woman and child in Australia.
Annually, Australia spends $3.8 billion in foreign aid. Foreign aid is money that the Australian government does not have, which is being spent on a developing country such as Indonesia. The Australian government is robbing Peter to pay Paul. The money that the government is spending on other countries is driving Australia further and further into debt.
The Liberal Democrats believe that national debt should be zero. The next generations of Australians should not have to pay for the overspending habits of those who came before them. Our children and grandchildren should not have to work off a debt created from building up other countries.
