Government mismanagement of electricity has lead to the highest energy prices Australia has ever seen, yet it seems the only solution other parties are willing to offer is more government involvement in energy.
A good start to lowing making electricity cheaper would be to stop taxing it. If the government truly cared about the price of energy you'd think this would be the first thing they do.
The next step would be to increase competition. The number of energy providers in the market gives the illusion of competition but the bottleneck is the distributor, not the provider. When it comes to distribution there's no choice. This needs to change.
Finally, the government must not waste taxpayer money subsidizing various energy options. Consumers will vote with their money when they think energy initiatives are worth the investment.
