In the modern world, electricity is a necessity. It lights our homes, it cooks our food and keeps us warm.
Australia has the tenth highest electricity prices in the OECD. South Australia has an unreliable electricity supply and the highest domestic electricity prices in the world.
Some would say this is all due to renewable energy, it isn't. The fault is with government intervention in the energy market. South Australian Labor's ideological renewable energy push has driven up the price of electricity. There is no baseload coal generation to ensure reliability, solar and wind farms cannot meet demand under unfavourable weather conditions. This poor supply situation has contributed to blackouts across the state. Costs forced onto electricity retailers from the installation of heavily subsided solar panels has made electricity even more expensive for the South Australian consumer.
The Liberals do not have a great track record of alleviating costs at either the state or federal level. Since they formed government in 2013, the federal Liberal government has not ended Labor's expensive subsidies that are driving up the cost of electricity.
We cannot let South Australia's electricity folly spread to the rest of Australia
